This Week, Take Action with #RedForEd!

Our UTLA and OEA colleagues are facing tough contract negotiations and need our support. These fights may be in Los Angeles and Oakland, but the struggle affects us all.

There are three ways to Take Action:

1. On Friday, Jan. 11, wear red for CTA’s statewide #RedForEd Day of Action. Take a selfie (or a groupie!) and share on social media using the hashtag #RedForEd
2.Sign CTA’s petition to send messages of solidarity and support to UTLA and OEA educators fighting on the front lines for quality public education for their students. We’ll be delivering the messages to educators over the next few weeks.
3. Join or plan walk-in at your school to show your support for public education. Learn more about walk-ins below and at cta.org/redfored.

Take action for smaller class sizes, more nurses, librarians, counselors and psychologists. Take action for less testing and more teaching, safer schools and stronger regulation for charter schools. Take action to support community schools and competitive wages to keep educators from being priced out of the communities we serve. Take action because our fight is for public education across California, and the nation.

CTA Members running for ADEM Races

As we enter into 2019 and begin to prepare for the highly critical 2020 presidential election cycle, CTA members and staff from across California have filed to run for local Democratic Party delegate.

Delegates elected through the Assembly District Election Meeting (ADEM) process represent one-third of all California Democratic Party delegates statewide. Electing ADEM representatives who understand issues facing our students, our classrooms and our profession is vital in helping build our influence as a union in how policy, platform and endorsements are made by the Democratic Party.

The CTA Political Action Department staff have been working over the past several weeks with labor allies, members of the legislature and the state Democratic Party to help recruit members and staff to run as delegates. The list was finalized and made available just this week.

Please look at the attached list of CTA members running in your area and consider showing up to cast your vote. This process only takes a few moments out of your day and I am sure they would highly appreciate your support.

Some elections are happening this weekend on either Saturday or Sunday, January 12 or 13 with other districts holding their elections during the weekend of January 26 or 27.

Thank you for all you do.
