New CDE Mobile App Helps Families Find Summer and Afterschool Meal Program Locations

The CDE’s CA Meals for Kids has just released a mobile app that allows users to find the California’s Summer and Afterschool Meal Programs sites in their communities. These programs provide no-cost meals to children aged eighteen and under. Families, community members, and school personnel can use location-based searches to find meal sites, dates, and times. The app also allows for searches by site name, ZIP code, and city.

The CA Meals for Kids mobile app is available for free download through Apple’s App Store, Google’s Play Store, and Microsoft’s App Store Web pages. More information is available on the CDE CA Meals for Kids Mobile Application support Web page.

Congratulations to our May 2018 Educator of the month Kim Campbell!

Why an I an educator?  My decision to become a teacher stemmed from working as a teaching assistant at Solano Community College.  I truly enjoyed working with the students and assisting my teacher.  This experience made me begin to question my college path.  I decided to change my educational goal and become a teacher.  I have never regretted my decision.  I truly found my passion.  I enjoy working with students and encouraging them to become life-long learners.
What do I enjoy most about teaching?  I enjoy being in the classroom and working with the students.  It is rewarding to see the growth in each student over the course of the year both academically and socially.
Years in the profession/district?  This is my 25th year with VUSD.
What do you do on your spare time/free time?  I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends.    I enjoy going on long walks with my dogs and traveling.
What does being a member of the Vacaville Teachers Association mean to you?
Being a member of VTA means that I am a part of an organization that truly cares about our community and providing the best opportunities for all our students and teachers.

Ms. Wildgoose’s AP Capstone class- students gave presentations on research they had been doing.  They used stimulus sources to come up with a topic.  In addition to the presentation, they also wrote a 2000 word essay on the topic.  This is part of the AP Seminar Performance Task- Individual Research Based Essay and Presentation.

Freshman Focus class.  Students were working collaboratively to practice graphing/charting.  They were using the online program Desmos.  They were in the middle of creating a scatter plot of 3 columns.  Yay Coach Kay for bringing your math game to class!!!
